Many of today's office chairs recline. But there are two different styles of reclining office chairs, and the differences between them are worth investigating before you consider making a purchase.
The main difference between the styles is the height of the back of the chair. One significant feature on all chairs that recline that you should pay close attention to is the number of casters/wheels the chair has. If it only has four, then if the wheels happen to be oriented in a way that the person reclines directly over the large gap between the wheels, then the chair may easily tip over. Five wheels or more are recommended for reclining office chairs.
In a similar manner, one should examine how wide the wheel base is for any office chairs that recline. If a person can recline with their weight outside of the wheel base, the chair may tip. If you are buying from an office furniture supply store, be sure to test it out, and try to tip it. However, if you are ordering from a catalog, you should definitely look at the chair compared to others and see how it is designed as far as number of wheels and size of wheel base.
